Why 10 meters is the technical limitation of water lifting in non-pump irrigation now?

I readed a Deutsche news about bionics applications in non-pump irrigation on the internet in July, 2006.

Within this news, it is mentioned that the current
technical non-pump dampen lifting elevation is 10 metres, and the example in inherent reality is about 100 metres. I privation to know if the major rule of non-pump water lifting is around the facade tension of dampen and capillary elevation? I Am wondering what are the major obstacles all for artificial method to reach the natural i.

From the formula of capillary ascent, it seems that the water lifting height could reach nearly 1000 metres (order of magnitude) if the redius of the capillary was about 10 nanometres (bid of property). Am I right Or wrong within using the formula to engender such a theoretical estimation? Are here any limited conditions all for using the formula, which may not allowe ME to apply it within such as a huge scale? May be that there is difficulty within tradition to accomplish the theoretical one?

Gratitude all for helps!
